Bugler in Col. Francis L. Dancey's 2nd Regiment Brigade of Florida Mounted Militia (1841).


Private, then promoted to Corporal on 19 Jan 1847 in Capt. Allen G. Johnson's Company Independent Florida Volunteers; after Capt. Johnson left in March 1847 to accept a Major's commission, Captain Christopher C. Coffee led the company in the Mexican War (8 Jan 1847- Jan 1848).


Later served as 3rd Sgt., then promoted to 2nd Sgt. in Captain William Fisher's Company (9 Jan 1848 - 30 Jun 1848) at Fort Brooke in Tampa, Florida.


Served as a sheriff in Levy County, Florida (1860).


Private under Lutterloh's 1st Battalion Florida Special Cavalry (Munnerlyn's Battalion or Cow Cavalry)

Later, promoted to lieutenant.


Joseph Fleming Prevatt succumbed to bilious fever.
