CraigWilliam Smith Craig was born in Salemn [sic], Marion County, Ill., Jan. 17, 1832 and died April 11, 1902, at the age of seventy years two month and twenty-five days. He united with the M. E. Church at Salemn [sic] when a young man and retained his membership there until coming west. Since that time he has been united with no denomination but has ever tried to exemplify the Golden Rule and to follow Christ’s sermon on the Mounty. March 28, 1853 he was united in marriage to Julia A. Cockrell of Clay County, Ill. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, one of whom preceeded her father to that happy land. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. E. Urner and V. Hetzel. Craig died at his home near Riley on April 11, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Craig was one of the pioneers in that locality and was a good citizen.
