Bill Dee Allen, 93, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.
Bill was born on Feb. 23, 1917, in Joplin to the union of Carl L. and Cleo F. Allen.
He was a resident of Joplin all of his life.
He served in the Pacific during World War II on the U.S.S. Baxter.
After returning from the war, he started a hamburger and ice cream drive-in at 3415 Main in Joplin. He and his wife started Allen Electric in 1947 at 3415 Main, Joplin, and later moved to 2026 Main, 2014 Main, 2016 Main and 111 W. 20th, its current location.
He was a member of the IBEW, Local 95, National Electrical Contractors Association, Fellowship Lodge 345, Scottish Rite Bodies, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, and Bethany Presbyterian Church, all of which he was a member for over 50 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working with his cattle on his ranch and traveling with his family.
He married Mary Louise "Babe" Sherwood on Aug. 24, 1941, in Joplin. She survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Dee Lynn Aggus and husband Steve; grandson Spencer Aggus and wife Tammy; and great-grandsons Drew and Luke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dick and Leyland; and sister Olive Brasch.
Funeral services for Bill Allen will be Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Reverend Brock Watson and Rodney Peters officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
A visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the mortuary.
Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Richard "Butch" Allen, R.E. Smith, Stan Newby, Jim Goodknight, Patrick Goodknight, Steve Aggus and honorary pallbearer Bill Starmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Bethany Presbyterian Church care of the mortuary.
