Orin attended Lewiston Senior High School where he was an outstanding football player for Lewiston.
After graduating from Lewiston Senior High School, Orin worked a short period on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam for Hickman Bros. Construction Company, who were also close family relatives.
Orin married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Bessie E. McLeod, May 25, 1935, at Davenport, Washington. Bessie E. Smith survives at the family home.
Orin worked for Steiner Electronic for 8 years. In 1950, he opened Orin's Radio & Electronics and expanded that business to include Motorola commercial 2-way radio sales and service throughout S.E. Washington State and Northern Idaho.
Orin was president of the Merchant Bowling League and serving his second term as president of the Hammond Organ Company/Society, as well as president of the Lewis-Clark Crankers Car Club. Orin belonged to the Lewiston Elks Lodge, the Clarkston Moose Lodge, Clarkston Masonic Lodge #143 and the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors in addition to his widow are two sons; Orin Dwayne Smith "Orin Jr."; and Charles Douglas "Doug" Smith; Granddaughters, Kelly Ann Moser, Kerry Rae Moser and Barbara Lynn Smith.
His brother Delbert C. Smith of Clarkston, and sister, Mrs. Al (Georgia) Freeman of Reno, Nevada, also survive him.
Funeral services will be March 4, Saturday morning, at 10:30 a.m. at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston. Orin's cousin, Clifford Smith, pastor of the Millwood First Church of the Nazarene, East of Spokane will officiate. Graveside services will be provided by Clarkston Masonic Lodge #143 F.& A.M. under the direction of William F. "Bill" Johnson, P.M.
Burial will follow services at Vineland Cemetary, Clarkston with a dinner for family and friends at the Smith family home.
