Mrs. Maud Dark, 78, a Clarkston resident until a year ago, died yesterday morning at St. Ignatius hospital at Colfax. She had been a patient there since suffering a heart attack Oct. 12.

Mrs. Dark was a resident of the Northwest all her life, in either Washington or Idaho.

She was born Nov. 1, 1883, at Almota, Wash. She attended schools at Colfax and was married there Nov. 2, 1902, to George T. Smith. They farmed in the Colfax area for 26 years, then moved to Lewiston Orchards in 1927, where they followed fruit and bee raising. Mr. Smith died in 1950.

Mrs. Smith lived at Clarkston for several years and married Frank Dark here May 3, 1961. They moved from here to Colfax after the marriage. She had been a life-long member of the Church of God.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter, Mrs. Georgia Freeman, Reno, Nev., two sons, Orin H. Smith and Delbert Smith, both of Clarkston; a brother, William Hickman of Touchet, Wash.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
