"In remembrance of Elbert & Olive Snyder" by Phoebe Brooks:

"In the first census of the United States (1790) there was but one Tousley family living in CT, and it was undoubtedly the oldest son of this family who in 1800 is recorded as having married Rebecca Bishop of Litchfield. The Tousleys were among the French Huguenots, who had been driven, two centuries before, by their Catholic persecutors to English or Dutch soil. They were the free thinkers of France, and many of them her best artisans and skilled workers.

"To John and Rebecca a son was born, Joel, in 1812, and four years later the family set forth from Litchfield; over the Alleghenys to settle in Springfield Township of Summit County, in Ohio."

Many thanks to Elizabeth Wilkerson for stone photo and to cousin Ramona for Tousley stone grouping photo.
