John E. Stoner, 86, of Mifflintown RR4, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at Lewistown Hospital. Born November 26, 1910 in Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Herbert L. and Carrie [Bergey] Stoner. His wife, Virginia S. [Horning] Stoner, whom he married November 8, 1933, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Walter H. Stoner, Mifflintown RR3, Lee A. Stoner, Lewistown, and John E. Stoner Jr., Harrisburg; brothers, William Stoner, Mifflintown, James Stoner, Mifflintown, and Herbert Stoner, Dillsburg; sisters, Mrs. Richard [Edith] Smith, Mifflintown and Mrs. Melvin [Ellen] King, Mifflintown; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. He was a retired carpenter. He attended Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. Services and interment were held Friday at Union Cemetery, Mifflintown, with Rev. William Esborn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059, or Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
