May 8, 1967 Funeral services for James H. Van Baren, 77, a resident of Jasper County most of his life, were held this afternoon at the Morgan-Loehr Funeral Home.
The Rev. Raymond Moore, minister of the Killduff Methodist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery at Prairie City.
Mrs. Lois Stanton was the organist.
Pallbearers were Melvin Vander Kamp, Fred Bishop, David Welle, Ralph Forker, David Aldridge and D. B. Carter.
Mrs. Ronald Reynolds, Mrs. Ralph Forker and Mrs. Henry Gifford were in charge of flowers.
Mr. Van Baren died about 6 p.m. Saturday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Kate; two daughters, Mrs. Merle Dorothy) Zickel of Newton and Mrs. Robert(Margaret) Finn of Newton; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dick of Salinas, Calif., and Charles of Des Moines; and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Boot of Gilman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son. three brothers and a sister.
Memorials may be sent to the Cancer Fund in care of Catherine Scoville at the Newton National Bank.
Mr. Van Baren was a member of the Mount Zion Church.
The son of John R. and Sara Jane Mitchell Van Baren, he was born Oct. 3, 1889 in Marion County. He was married to Kate Shelley Jan. 21, 1914 at the Christian Church parsonage in Newton.
A retired farmer, he had been associated with Pfister's Associated Growers in Monroe for the past 27 years. He had resided in Newton for the past 16 1/2 years.
