George W. Ridgway, 60 years old, brother of Richard Ridgway of Cobden, who lived at 403 North Main Street in Carbondale, died at the Holden Hospital last Thursday morning, Bright's disease was the cause of the death. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Cecil Adams, Mrs. Hazel Ridgway of Gary, Indiana, Elmer Ridgway of New York and John Ridgway of Carbondale. He leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Lizzie Clutts and R.B. Ridgway of Cobden, William Ridgway of East St. Louis, Mrs Ella Heern and John H. Ridgway of Carbondale. Also two half brothers, S. A. Carr of East St. Louis and J. W. Carr of Carbondale. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Makanda, Rev. Ward Beecher in charge, and burial was made in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. A number of friends of the family from here attended the services at Makanda Sunday. FOUND IN THE OLD FAMILY BIBLE: George Ridgway was born at Makanda,IL on Oct 6, 1871. Son of Richard and Martha Ridgway. He departed this life on May 19, 1932 at 9:45a.m. at the Holden Hospital. He was married to Maud Skipworth who preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure two sons: Elmer Ridgway of New York City, Johnnie Ridgway of Carbondale, two daughters: Mrs. Cecil Adams and Mrs. Hazel Straunch of Gary, Indiana and the following brothers and sisters: Wm. Ridgway of East St. Louis, R.B. Ridgway of Cobden, J.H. Ridgway of Carbondale, Mrs. Lizzie Clutts of Cobden, Mrs. Ellen Heern of Carbondale, also two half brothers: Mr. S.A. Carr of East St. Louis and Mr. J.W. Carr of Carbondale and a host of other relatives and friends. He married Maud Skipworth on November 16, 1899 Jackson Co.IL.
