Born on Inis (Inish) Bofin Island, western Irish Free State, came to USA 1901 from Scotland. She and her husband came on two different ships, he first , but both came in 1901 to Cleveland. Her parents were Markus and Bridget Cunnane, both were buried on Inish Bofin Island.. She worked in the woolen mills in Dumbarton, Scotland which is where she and Thomas Williams Gallagher were married shortly before coming to Cleveland, Ohio. Was in a car accident with her daughter Helen. Was riding in a car on West 41st Street in Cleveland and was hit by a young drunk driver. She died a few days later of internal injuries. Traditional Irish grandmother; spoiled her grandkids but made her kids work hard. She was especially close to her grandson, Robert E. Cover. He would stop at her house or apartment every day on the way home from Cathedral Latin High School before he would take the trolley back home out Fulton Street. She was a very talented seamstress, as were all of her sisters. Her nickname was 'Birdie" because she had long, thin legs and even into her 70's could dance an Irish jig just as she had as a girl in her native Ireland. She was very social and was a 'joiner' and was very well liked. Was very active in both the two large Irish organizations in Cleveland. When she passed away in 1950, 400 people signed her guest register book at McGorray Brothers Mortuary in Lakewood. Her funeral Mass was held at. St. Patrick -Bridge as was her husband Tom's, sons Peter and Mark and daughter Helen. It isn't known which church her infant daughter Margaret Mary Gallagher was buried from in 1908.
