He was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Dodge City, to David Peeler and Edith Rebecca Mather Dowell. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1944.
On March 8, 1947, he married Charlene McCoy in Dighton. She survives.
In 1948, Mr. Dowell rented his first land and began his own farming and ranching operation. He served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David Dowell of Littleton, Colo., and Dennis Dowell of Dighton; two daughters, Judy Fullmer of Dighton, and Vicki Weseman of Littleton; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Walter, Paul, Warren, Clayton and Raymond Dowell; and a sister, Madeline Spivey.
Funeral was at First Christian Church in Dighton. Military graveside service was at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
