He joined the church at the age of fourteen. At a very early age he showed signs of leadership and Christian Character. He was ordained to the ministry at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Baker, Louisiana in 1910. Very ably he served this congregation as pastor for seven years. During his life-time he gave leadership and counsel to many christian followers, having pastored churches as follows: The Providence Baptist Church, Zachary, Louisiana; twenty-six years; The Redwood Baptist Church, Zachary, Louisiana, twenty six years; The Magnolia Baptist Church, Baker, Louisiana, nine years; The Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, Alsen, Louisiana, twenty-four years; he pastored the Shady Grove Baptist Church for fifty-one years. More recently he served as full-time pastor of this church.
He departed this life on June 29, 2967, 4:00 a.m., at his residence.
He was married to Lottie Williams in 1912. This this union were born nine children - five sons and four daughters. Three sons preceded him in death.
His survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Lottie Williams Clark, four daughters, Mrs. Ollie Chase and Mrs. Gladys Davis, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Mrs. Hazel Bell of Zachary, Louisiana; Mrs. Lillian Nettles of Mansfield, Louisiana; two sons, Augustus and Emile Clark, both of Baker, Louisiana; two sisters; two brothers; fourteen grand-children; three great-grandchildren and many relatives and devoted friends.
