Born February 1, 1902 on a farm south of Scandia, Kansas, she was
one of seven children born to Leonard and Ada (Loring) Aspegren. She
received her early education in Scandia area schools, and
was a member of the 1920 graduating class at Scandia
High School.
As a young woman, she was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in
Scandia and later at the Planters State Bank in Salina, Kansas.
December 23, 1926, she was united in marriage to Mr. Harold C. Bowling
at First United Methodist Church in Wichita. The couple lived and
worked in many Kansas communities in conjunction with Mr.
Bowling's employment with Western Union Telegraph Co.
They resided in Trenton, Missouri for 10 years, returning
to Winfield in 1942. From 1963 to 1967, they lived
in Independence, Kansas and resided in Winfield since his
retirement in 1967. Mr. Bowling preceded her in death October
31, 1984.
Her family includes her sons: Lowell Bowling and wife
Betty, Wichita, Kansas; Jim Bowling and wife Valina, Plano,
Texas; daughters: Mrs. Eli (Ramona) Rush, Winfield; Mrs.
Bill (Dorothy) Apple, Albuquerque, N.M.; Mrs. Jerry
(Beth) Quigley, Mulvane, Kan: and Mrs. Jim (Louise) Day,
Winfield; five sisters: Ruby Larson, Ella Norris and Mildred
Anderson all of Scandia; Dorothy Stensaas Rapid City,
S.D.; and Mrs. Loren (Norma) Carlgren, Norway, Kansas;
11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
