She was born in Bryan County and lived in Savannah for 20 years. She was a member of First Mount Bethel Baptist Church and District 3.
Surviving are three daughters, Irma A. Barnes of Savannah, Mamie A. Cooper of South Plainfield, N.J., and Lois A. Crass of Hotboro, Pa.; three sons, Slaten Armstrong of Savannah, Julius Armstrong Jr. of East Orange, N.J., and Cecil Armstrong of Hillside, N.J.; two sisters, Hattie Gainer of Detroit and Eurlee Brown of Irvington, N.J.; a brother, Cecil McGirt of Decatur; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
