Rev. Emory Jones was blacksmith and farmer until his late 20s; however his true vocation was that of minister. Upon graduation from college at Adrian, Michigan he was ordained minister of the Wesleyan Methodist church, preaching in different places until 1880 when he became pastor of the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Syracuse, until his death.

A tireless worker, no undertaking was too great. He was known far and wide throughout Western New York for his unselfishness, his devotion to Christian duty, his purity of character and his devotion. He was particularly severe in his onslaught on intemperance and infidelity, but so honest and earnest, and consistent that he gained the respect of all, even those who totally differed with him.
