Son of John and Mary Macumber Love. Sibs: James, Hugh, Nancy Jane, Mary and Charlotte.

Children of Benjamin and Laura Lewis Love: Sarah Ann, Nellie Iretta, John William, Elmer Edward, Mary Elizabeth, George Benjamin and Herbert Franklin Love.

Death of Benjamin Franklin Love

B.F. Love, one of the first born white children in the northeast part of Mercer County and a most highly respected citizen of Richland Grove Township passed away at the family home at Sherrard, Friday evening, April 4, 1913. During the many years he has resided in that community, he has been prominent in every movement for its advancement and betterment and was regarded as one of the most capable men of his day, at the time of his death, Mr. Love was serving his third term as member of the Village Board of Sherrard.

Benjamin Franklin Love was born near Swedona, Richland Grove Township, Mercer county, Illinois, April 22, 1838. When he was nine years of age his father died, leaving his mother with seven children as her charge. Frank came right to the front and gave his mother every assistance and helped support the family.

Mr. Love was united in Marriage with Miss Laura Lewis, January 30, 1862 to which seven children were born, the first born dying in infancy. Mr Love is survived by his beloved wife, four sons and two daughters who are as follows: Mrs. Huggans (Huggins), Sherrard, Ill; John William, Tacoma, Wash; Elmer Edward, Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Thompson, Alexandria, So. Dak; George Benjamin, Sherrard, Ill; and Frank Herbert, Tacoma, Wash. There are fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Charlotte Holiday (Holliday), Swedona also survives.

The deceased enlisted in the Union Army, February 28, 1865, in the Co. M, 11th Illinois Calvary and served until the regiment was discharged at Memphis, Tenn, November 30, 1865. His brother, Lieut Hugh M. Love, Co., G. 27th Ill Vol Infantry, was killed in the battle of Missionary Ridge November 30, 1863.

Funeral services were at the Congregational Church, Sunday, April 6, 1913 Rev. Arve K. Johnson officiating. Burial was made at Swedona.
