Pioneer Countian Earl E. Ayres Dies

Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Madill Church of Christ for Earl E. Ayres a pioneer Marshall County resident.

He was born in Grayson County, Texas May 20, 1888 and lived there until he moved to Woodville, Indian Territory in 1899.

He was married May 10, 1903 to Miss Sylvia Baker in Sherman, Tex., and they continued to live in Woodville until they moved to Madill in 1917.

He served as deputy county clerk for a few years and was elected county clerk of Marshall County and served for two terms. He also served as city treasurer for several years.

In the years following this, he was in the real estate business and ranching for the remainder of his life.

Mr. Ayres died Monday morning in a Tishomingo hospital at the age of 79 years.

He had been an active member of the Church of Christ for 60 years and had served as elder of the Madill congregation since 1917.

Mr. Ayres is survived by his widow, Sylvia, and seven children. They are Mrs. Veda Kennon, Madill, Earnest Earl Ayres, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Lucille Murray, Madill, James Ayres, Anadarko, Bill Ayres and Don Ayres both of Madill and Mrs. Evelyn Arnold of Dallas, Tex.

One sister, Mrs. Paralee Allred of Dallas, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Bro. John W. Pigg was in charge of the services, assisted by J.D. Walker and Grady Cooper. Singing was by Norvel and Mary Margaret Beard and the Church of Christ singers.

Interment was in Woodberry-Forest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Oscar Smiley, Otis Ward, Wreno Jones, Johnny Smith, Floyd Miller, Roy Lockhart, Lloyd Henson and Hardin Meadows.

Honorary pallbearers were Lee C. Atkinson, Reuel Little, N.W. Brillhart, W.W. Fondren, Joe Leeper, Elmer Lemmons, J.W. Nicholas, and A.W. Beames.

Also, the elders and deacons of the church, Boyd Keener, M.E. Ewing, Bill Hansford, Elmer Bolin, George Putman, Otis Wilson, Joe Williamson, Ralph Hollingsworth, Cyril Petty, and Jim Ewing.

Friends were asked to donate to the church library fund in memory of Mr. Ayres.
