Asbury H. Whipple, a resident of Springfield for more than fifty years, died yesterday at his residence. He was 83 years old. He had been ill only since last Wednesday.

Mr. Whipple was for some years employed by the Peter Vredenburgh Lumber Co. and also was a member of the Springfield police department for twelve years. Born in Madison, Indiana, he came to Springfield in 1882 and had resided here ever since.

Surviving are two children, Thomas C. Whipple, city, and Mrs. Maud Bloomer, Jerseyville; nine grandchildren; one brother, Sylvester Whipple, city; one sister, Miss Daisy Whipple, Pa. His wife died three years ago.

Funeral services at the Thomas C. Smith Sons chapel and burial in Oak Ridge abbey.

Mr. and Mrs. Whipple were members of Asbury M. E. church and several years ago donated a large memorial window to the church depicting a scene from the life of Bishop Asbury.
