James Reed Armstrong was the 4th child and 2nd son born to William Armstrong, Sr. and Sarah Barr Armstrong.

He married Mary Rachel Emerson on August 24, 1815 in Abbeville District, South Carolina.

James and Mary were the parents of ten children, including

1.Narcissa Orpha 'Orphy' Armstrong, b.March 07, 1817, d.August 10, 1898. Orphy married Dr. Thomas Henry Reid on May 05, 1836 in Abbeville Co., South Carolina.
Orphy and T. Henry are interred at Old Liberty Cemetery, near Scotland, Van Buren Co., Arkansas.

2.Henry W. Armstrong, b.June 04, 1819, d.March 25, 1905. Henry married 1.Synthia J. Smith, 2.Mrs. Nancy E. Leveritt.
Henry, Synthia and Nancy are all interred at Bethel Cemetery, Delta, Clay Co., Alabama.

3.James Houston Armstrong, b.April 12, 1822, d.February 23, 1893. James married Millicent "Milly" Wall Hyatt.
James and Milly are interred at Bethel Cemetery, Delta, Clay Co., Alabama.

4.Mary Armstrong, b.1832. Mary married John Marcus Clarke Smith.

5.Warren Armstrong, b.1834. Warren married 1.Mary Leverett, 2.Margaret "Margie" Smith.

6.Martha Armstrong, b.1836.

7.William A. Armstrong, b.January, 1838.

There are three children not listed here, they are only listed by age and gender on the 1830 and 1840 census'. Either grown and gone or had died by 1850. If anyone has knowledge of these three children, please contact me. I would love to hear from you.

James and Mary Rachel's tombstones have long ago deteriorated. Their graves are unmarked. Cemetery Records are all that are left to let us know where they are interred.
