Ernest J. Talarico, Sr. passed away January 7, 2011. He was born in Italy to Charles and Sarafina Talarico on August 2, 1916. Ernie arrived in Des Moines, IA in 1922 and lived on the south side of Des Moines his entire life.
In 1941, Ernie married Evelyn Marchesano. After serving in the Army in WWII, he purchased Martin Grocery Store from his mother-in-law, Anna. Ernie ran the store until 1967, and then worked for Cimino Distributing until his retirement at age 72.
Ernie was a member of many bowling teams, enjoyed playing golf, being with his family, and especially loved playing pitch.
Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Ernie, Jr.; his brother, Frank Talarico; and sister, Virginia Sedgwick.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Marguerite (Ben) Acri; son, Marty (Sandy) Talarico; his daughter-in-law, Rita Talarico; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Care ~ Tonini Chapel. Memorials may be left to St. Anthony Catholic Church Foundation.
