Alice Childress Fillingim, 69, of Navarre, died Sunday, December 12, 1999. She has suffered from cancer in both lungs for over two years.
Before her illness, she was doing volunteer work for the elderly and children. She was active in W.S.C.S. Sunday school, the youth, and the F.A.N.S. club. She was a member of Gulf Breeze U.M.C.
She was a wonderful loving mom, grandmother and friend. Her home and heart was always open. She was well known for her smile on cloudy days.
She was a cosmotologist for 20 years, a CNA whose patients would say, her smile was better than their Dr.'s medicine.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ada Childress; brothers, Jesse, Bennie, Ollie, and Dan; and sisters, Mary and Juanita.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Fillingim, Sr.; four sons, Michael, Ben, Larry, and Richard; three daughters, Cyndi, Sherry and Becky; brother, Clark; sisters, Viola, Hattie and Belle. She had nine grandsons, Mike Jr., Daron, Robert, Richard, Benjamin, Ryan, Johnathan and Joshua; seven granddaughters, Tracy, Angie, Dusti, Erin, Jenifer and Joslyn; and three great- grandchildren, Sara, Justin and Baleigh.
Funeral services will be held at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at 2 p.m. with Dr. Herbert Sadler, Dr. Paul Nixon, the Rev. June Nixon and Mr. Tom Sharron, officiating.
Burial will be at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be William Childress, Don Childress, Richard Thorpe, Sam Johnson, Larry Petterson and Jimmy Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Meyers, Joe Rascoe, Joe Reed, Louis Grant and Jack Stephens.
HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 1999 at the funeral home.
