Funeral services for Sam Jones, 83, of Athens, were held Monday afternoon at the East Side Assembly of God Church.
The Rev. Walter Hampton and the Rev. A.C. Rasco conducted the services and burial was in the Red Hill Cemetery. The Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jones died Saturday at 6:45 p.m. at a nursing home in Athens after a long illness.
He was born at Martins Mill and formerly resided at Colorado City in Mitchell County for 16 years. He returned to Athens in 1937. He was a former member of the Woodmen of the World and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors are two sons, Alton Jones of Midland and Aubrey Lee (Pete) Jones of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Oglesby of Kermit and Mrs. Sue Harris of Athens; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Leon Johnson, Billy Gene Harris, Bill Huckabee, Ernest Gillert, Lonnie Andress and Johnny Splawn.
