Russell Coleman Shupe was born in the family home in North Ogden, Utah, on 27 September 1910, the eldest of 14 children to Parley Grant Shupe and Luella Chadwick Shupe. He passed away as a result of a fall on 8 November 2006.
He loved baseball and played for the Weber Farm Bureau and Commercial Baseball Leagues throughout the Intermountain West and also with traveling teams in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from the International Engineering & Trade School in Los Angeles, California, in 1935 with an associates' degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He married Mattie Jewell Jones on 10 January 1936 in Los Angeles, California. Together they had nine children. They later divorced but remained friends and in contact with each other until Jewel's death in 2000.
Russell was a sheet metal fabricator and artisan, a career that spanned 67 years, until a shoulder injury ended his career. Most of his working years were with Richard's Sheet Metal Company (Ogden) and retired while working at American Nutrician (Ogden) for his dear friend, Jack Behnken.
Russell loved his farm in Eagle, Idaho where he worked for E.W. Little Sheet Metal Company, but later moved back to North Ogden, Utah where he took care of the Shupe family home.
Russell was fiercely proud of his heritage and was the family historian and geneologist for many years.
He was active in the LDS church and held many positions, including welfare services, teaching, stake missions, and loved his job with the North Ogden Stake vineyard.
He had a passion about gardening and loved his fruit trees. He couldn't pass a tree without pointing out how to improve the shape through pruning.
Later in life he married June Shelton. She passed away in 2005.
Russell is survived by his nine children; 52 granchildren, 89 great-grand children and 2 great-great granchildren. He is also survived by 5 brothers and 1 sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.
