Jean added ‘du Rocher' to his surname, Garesché. It was the custom of the younger sons of French nobles to add the name of the estate they had inherited to their surname. ‘du Rocher' would later be dropped from the family name.

Jean married Elizabeth (de Brossay) Garesché du Rocher (1760-1803).

Jean died after contracting a fever during a hunting trip.

Jean and Elizabeth were parents of Jean Pierre Garesché (1780-1861), Vital Marie Garesché (1782-1844), and Louise Marguerite (Garesché) Garesché ["Lise"] (1789-1885), and the grandparents of Lt. Col. Julius Peter Garesché (1821-1862) [#10801181].
