Rosenberg Herald, January 29, 1945:

The entire community was grieved last week over the passing of Mr. Peter Stehle, one of the community's most beloved citizens. Mr. Stehle passed away at his home in the Cottonwood Community Tuesday, June 19, 1945, at 3:25 p.m., following an illness of about ten weeks. He was moved to his home from a Houston hospital only a short time before his death, where all that was possible was done to save his life, but to no avail. He wanted to pass away at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. Stehle was born on December 24, 1882 in Mramorak, Austria Hungary. He came to America with his parents in 1892, landing at Galveston. The family settled at Goliad, Texas, where he grew to young manhood and where he met the young girl who later became his life companion and also where he first became a Christian. He married Miss Julia Polichnai on October 9, 1904. Seven children were born to this happy union, six of whom survive him.

Mr. Stehle moved with his family to Rosenberg in 1925 where he was a successful farmer until his death. Mr. Stehle was a faithful member of the Methodist church and continued to take part in its services until his last illness. He was happy to be a part of this great Christian organization, and all activities concerning it had his admiration.

Deceased is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lydia E. Fischer and Mrs. Ella Ida Franks, both of Houston; four sons, John and Martin Stehle of Rosenberg, Walter Stehle of Houston, and Lieut. Richard Stehle with the U.S. Air Force in Dallas. One daughter died in infancy. He is also survived by one grandson; give granddaughters; one brother, Mike Stehle of Rosenberg; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Heil of Gonzales and Mrs. Otto Metting of Yorktown; one half-brother, John Stehle of Gonzales; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lena Sassman and Mrs. Lizzie Schmidt; and one step-sister, Mrs. John Stehle of Winters, Texas.

Funeral services for Mr. Stehle were held from the First Methodist Church in Rosenberg Wednesday afternoon, June 20, 1945, at 4 o'clock. Rev. H.W. Bahler, pastor of the East Bernard Methodist Church and a friend of the family, conducted the services. Interment took place in the W.O.W. Cemetery, with the Foerster Funeral Home of Rosenberg in charge of funeral arrangements.

The following served as pallbearers, all of whom were nephews of the deceased: Mike Stehle Jr., Charlie Stehle, Herman Stehle, Willie Gaubatz, Mike Gaubatz, and Willie Lamensky.
