Furney Richardson, lifelong resident of freestone county was born January 11, 1880 at Dew, TX. He was the son of Dr. Alex Richardson and Jennie Clark Richardson, who came from Alabama to Texas in 1878. He was County Farm Demonstration Agent and served as County Superintendent of schools for 18 years. He made great progress in rural schools and agriculuture in the county. He was well known and respected as an educator before retiring. The Furney Richardson High School, and now community were named in his honor. The pecan trees on the Freestone County Courthouse lawn were planted by him.

He was married to Sarah Estelle Smith of Dew on May 3, 1919. She was born March 16, 1887 and was the daughter of Robert L. and Isabelle Smith, who came from Alabama. She was a teacher and home demonstration Agent. Furney Richardson died February 11, 1959 and Estelle Richardson died May 15, 1976. They had two daughter, Jennie Richardson Tichonchik and Fern Richardson Simpson of Dallas, and two grandchildren, Robert Furney Beglund and Sarah ann Berglund of Honolulu, Hawaii.
