Katherine G. "Katie" Bahnsen, 79 of 102 S. Gaylord, died Sunday (June 14, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Scheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen of St. Luke Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.
Visitation was held Tuesday at the funeral chapel and will continue for one hour prior to service today.
Katherine "Katie" G. Bahnsen was born July 9, 1918, at Dougherty, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Frosch) Deets.
On Oct 16, 1935, she married Ralph Bahnsen.
Katie enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards and gardening. She was a wonderful cook and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved her home in Nora Springs, where she had lived for the past 50 years.
She was a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Kaye Rodamaker and her husband, Jack, South Lake Tahoe, Calif; Jerry Bahnsen and his wife, Valarie, Anoka, Minn.; Jack Bahnsen and his wife, Glenda, Nora Springs; and Penny Summers and her husband Curt, Stow, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Craig Rodamaker, of Clive; Raelynn Omel, of Stateline, Nev.; Kathy Allen, of Portsmith, VA; Laura Bahnsen, of Nora Springs; Kim Hanson, Kelly Bahnsen, and Chris Bahnsen, all of Anoka. Minn; two step grandchildren, Mike Balluff and Dave Balluff, of Mason City; five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Dolly) Christiansen, of Mason City, Mrs. Audrey Hewitt, of Nora Springs; Mrs. Glen (AnnaBelle) Christiansen, of Nora Springs; Mrs. Mildred Austin, of Mason City; Mrs. Richard (Laurine) Kressin, of Biomer, Wis, and one brother E. Daryl Deets, of Nora Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1987; and seven brothers, Eugene, Wilbur, Walter, Ward, Duane "Wingy", Clayton and Emmett Deets.
