Joseph A. Anderson was born April 12, 1874, in Malmøhus Læn Skane, Sweden, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nils Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran faith. While as a young man in Sweden, he learned the fine art of cabinet making.

On July 4, 1892, at the age of 18 years, he immigrated to America, coming directly to Clarkfield, Minnesota. In the fall of that year he went to Chicago, Illinois, where he was employed for four years in the Pullman shops.

In 1897, he returned to Clarkfield and started farming in Swede Prairie Township. He lived on the same farm for 52 years.

He married Anna Pehrson of Minneota, Minnesota, on December 12, 1898. Five children were born to them. One son, Adolph, passed away July 30, 1906.

During his long residence in this community, he has been a faithful member of the Swede Home Lutheran Church where he served as secretary for many years, and held other offices on the church board. He served his community by holding different offices on the township board.

In the fall of 1949, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson moved into a new home in Clarkfield. Here he continued to occupy his time, until his death, with the trade he mastered in his youth, that of cabinet making.

On December 22, 1952, he passed away suddenly in Clarkfield from an attack of coronary thrombosis. He had reached the age of 78 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife, and four children, namely, Thora (Mrs. Willmer Lee) of Minneapolis, Lillie (Mrs. Otto Lange) of Clearbrook, Minnesota, Melvin and Albin, both of the Clarkfield community. Six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
