María Gregoria Regalado y Patiño was born at Tepatitlán, Jalisco, México, where she was also baptized. She was the daughter of Eutiquio Regalado (b. 1861) and Lorenza Patiño (1866-1932). She was a 4th grade teacher at nearby Valle de Guadalupe when she married Bernardo Casillas y Cornejo in 1921. She accompanied her husband to the United States, crossing at El Paso, Texas, in 1922, and arriving at Santa Mónica, California, shortly before her daughter Antonia María de Jesús was born. Bernardo died in 1936 and she worked many different jobs to raise her five children during the depression. Gregoria married Encarnación Ornelas in 1948 and moved to Montebello (East Los Angeles). She died at the home of her eldest daughter in Santa Mónica in 1969 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
