Mrs. Alonzo Wheeler, mother of Don A., W.R., R.L., and Mrs. Henry Thomas of this place died at Hawarden last Tuesday (27 September 1904) after a lingering illness (stomach cancer). The services were conducted in the M.E. church by Rev. A.B. Gilbert at Hawarden and the interment took place in the Ireton cemetery Wednesday. The remains were followed to the grave by a large number of friends and neighbors, thirteen teams comming from Hawarden. The lady was a patient sufferer and much respected by all who knew her. Her demise brings sorrow to many.
Mrs. Wheelers madien name was Francis M. Rich and whe was born in Oswego county N.Y. Dec 4 1830. She was married to Alonzo Wheeler at Pulaski, N.Y. May 19, 1851 and they went immediately to Wisconsin where they lived until 1889 when they came to Sioux county and where her husband died in 1896. Besides the children living in Ireton and vicinity their are left to mourn her loss three children in Hawarden: DeAlton, E.C. and Laura; Mrs. Forncrook, of Minnesota, Mrs. Edwards of Harrisburg, S.D. and Issac J. of Alaska.
