Charles Edward "Ed" Wheeler was the son of Alonzo Wheeler and his wife Frances Rich. He and his siblings were born in Green County, Wisconsin. (August 1859 per 1900 US Census and Aug 17, 1859.) Most of the family later settled in Sioux County, Iowa, near Ireton.

He married Lizzie Ashmore about 1895. Son Edward was born July 1897

Lizzie had married LD Hilton in Nov 1892. Her daughter Grace was born August 1893. Grace went by the surname Ashmore in later census and when she married. LD Hilton and Lizzie divorced, and LD married her sister Edith Ashmore the next day. Curious. D. Wheeler was a witness at Lizzie's and LD's marriage. Ed's brother??? Very likely (he had 2 old brothers, Donald and DeAlton)

Lizzie and Ed had one child, Edward. After their divorce (by 1900), Edward was raised by his paternal grandmother, Aunt Laura and his father.

About 1907, Ed, Laura and Edward homesteaded in Haakon County, SD, near Philip.

They lost their ranch during the depression. 1940 Census has him with nephew Francis Edwards. 1945 Ed is back in Phillip. The 1950 census has his as an "inmate" at White River. Poor House residents were called inmates. As a 90 year old who had no close family nor assets, it's highly probable. He died in White River "Rest Haven" from Rheumatoid Arthritis and had been a resident for 2 years/9 months.
He died in the next year and was buried in Philip by his sister. (other counties used Rest Haven for their "county hospital" patients in this time frame).
