MRS. N. H. ADAMS IS DEAD
Daughter of Early Settlers of Perry Township—Mother of a Large Family
Mrs. N. H. Adams died Friday afternoon at her home in east Traer. She was a victim of pernicious anemia and had been in failing health for nearly two years. All of her children were here when she passed away. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church at one o'clock Monday afternoon in charge of Dr. A. M. Billingsley. Burial was in West Union cemetery. Mrs. Adams was a resident of the Traer community more than half a century. She was born at Horsehead, N. Y. July 20, 1853 being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron McKinley, who came to north Tama with their family in 1869, locating four miles southeast of the present site of Traer. They had lived in Michigan for a time before coming to Iowa, and in 1872 returned to Michigan. In Montcalm county, Mich., May 23, 1872, the daughter, Lenora, was married to N. H. Adams. The McKinley family returned to Tama county a second time in 1875, Mr. and Mrs. Adams following a year later. The latter couple rented land of W. C. Seelye, northwest of Traer, and started farming. They lived there five years, then buying eighty acres on the ridge in Grant township, which was their home for thirty-three years. The Adams farm has been owned and occupied several years by H. D. Loop. In 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Adams moved to Traer, which has been their home since.
Ten children were born to the couple. One died in infancy. Two sons died within a week during the residence of the family on the Seelye farm many years ago. The living children are: Rev. Frank D. Adams, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Bertha Cutts, Toledo, Ill.; Carl, Elgin, Ill.; Roy, St. Paul; Mrs. A. W. Root, Brookfield, Mo., Mrs. Will Bolt, Crystal township; Mrs. Fred Wilson, northeast of Traer.
Mrs. Adams was one of a family of six children. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death. A brother, Sam McKinley, is living at Arnold 's Park, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. A. Hollenbeck, at Sioux City.
