"John Phelps Matthews, 66, Yokley farmer, died at 2:00 this morning at the King's Daughter's Hospital after several months of illness. A native of Giles County, he was a son of the late Elbert and Amanda Phelps Matthews. He was a member of the Taylor's Chapel Methodist Church. The body will be at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home until time for the funeral services which will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday at Glenwood Presbyterian Church. The Rev. A.R. Hogan will officiate, assited by Elder Winfield Skinner. Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetary. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Okelene Gibson Matthews; one sister, Mrs. James Gibson of Southport and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Fred Petty, Joe Hickman, Burns Shrader, Leroy Gibson, Paul Cartwright, R.E. Matthews, Clovis Gibson and Adolphus Gibson. Oakes and Nichols are in charge of the arrangments."
