Joel H. McBroom, son of A.W. and Martha A. McBroom, was born April 27, 1886, near Olean and departed this life at 2:30 Wednesday morning, December 18. He was 52 years, 8 months and 1 day of age.
He was united in marriage with Mary Atkin February 14, 1907. To this union two children were born; a son, Jesse R. and one daughter, Madie Dean. He has two sisters who survive him, Mrs. W.J. Lowry of Sedalia, and Mrs. O.L. Atkinson of near Olean.
When a boy of 15, he united with the Christian Church at Olean, where he was a member until he was called from his earthly home.
Mr. McBroom had been in failing health almost two years and about two weeks ago became seriously ill. He failed rapidly until death claimed him Wednesday morning.
He often expressed a desire to recover his health, saying there is so much I need to do; but when he realized the end was near he said, "I am ready to go." Mr. McBroom was a kind and devoted husband and father, willing at all times to make sacrifices for their comfort and needs. He has lived his entire life in this community and was loved and held in high esteem b all his neighbors and friends.
Mr. McBroom leaves to mourn his departure, besides his wife, his son, Jesse and wife Lucille, Mrs. Madie Denny and husband, Roscoe; two sisters, Mrs. W.J. Lowry of Sedalia, and Mrs. O.L. Atkinson of near Olean; and a host of relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted at the Olean Christian Church Thursday afternoon by the Rev. A. L. Alexander, pastor of the Eldon Christian Church, and burial was made at Olean Cemetery.
