WALTER W. BAILEY DEAD
A Popular Young Man Cut Down in His Youth
The announcement of the death of Walter W. Bailey will be painful tidings to his hosts of friends. At 10 minutes after 12 o'clock this morning his soul was wafted to the other shore.
About two months ago Walter W. Bailey went to St. Mary's hospital to undergo an operation for the removal of a cancerous growth. From the first there were but slight hopes of his ultimate recovery. His life slowly ebbed away, and shortly after last midnight death terminated his sufferings.
Walter Bailey was in his twenty-fourth year, and all who knew him will mourn his demise as they would a fond, good-natured, kind-hearted brother. He was the son of Mary T. and the late John A. Bailey, whose death occurred in this city in April, 1885. He was idolized by his mother, brother and sister and to Captain T. C. Bailey, his uncle, the blow is equally severe. Young Walter had a mature head on his youthful shoulders. His business ability, which was brought to fruition in the Captain's office, was fully exemplified when he satisfactorily filled the responsible position of Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue for this district from the time Colonel Hollister died till last March.
Courteous, obliging, manly, Walter Bailey's death leaves an aching void in the family and in his immediate circle of friends. Few young men have shown such devotion to a mother as he, and his cutting down in the prime of youth is indeed a cruel fate. The sympathy of friends without number goes out to the bereaved mother and kindred.
