ELIZABETH BRUCE ULTES
93, of Wesley Glen Retirement Center, Columbus, Ohio, formerly of 105 Ardmore Road, Springfield, died Thursday, April 11, 2002. She was born in Urbana, Ohio, March 28, 1909 the daughter of William M. Jr. and Helen (Cummings) Bruce. Mrs. Ultes graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia in 1930 with a B.A. degree in Economics and from Wittenberg University in 1979, at age 70 years, with a B.F.A. degree in History of Art. She also attended Positano Art Workshop in Positano, Italy, and Institute Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Mrs. Ultes was preceded in death by her husband William Ultes, Jr., who was President of the former Credit Life Insurance Company of Springfield at the time of his death. In 1994, her sister, Helen Bruce Baldwin of Connecticut, died. In Columbus, Mrs. Ultes was active in the Columbus Art Museum, the Columbus Art League, Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Association and the Sorosis Literary Society and Wexner Center. Mrs. Ultes is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ultes Hoffman of Bedford Hills, New York; a grandson, David K. Chapman III; and great granddaughters, Emily Kojima and Alice Ultes Chapman of Pleasantville, New York. There will be graveside services at the convenience of the family in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Glen Retirement Center, 5155 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214. The family is being served by the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR Memorial Home.
