Albert Monroe was born September 21, 1871 in Mesquite, Texas to Watts Marks Jr. and Dosha Delilah Bennett. He married first a Lillie Cootes on January 22, 1893 in Dallas County, TX. They had 2 children together, a girl, Ova Pearl, and a boy, Otho Vernon. Both eventually moved to Oklahoma. Albert was apparently estranged from Ova, but she had at least a casual relationship with some of her half-siblings. Otho died of unknown causes, and Albert came from Fort Cobb to claim his remains and have him buried.

On August 12, 1899, Albert married Ella Baker, daughter of Eli Calvin Baker and Sarah Jane Lollar, in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma Territory. It's said they took the train there from Dallas and were married in a Primitive Baptist Church near Shawnee, though it's not clear why they trekked all the way there for the marriage. It seems that perhaps they didn't know each other well when they decided to get married; Albert, when filling out the marriage license application, had a fair amount of incorrect and omitted information concerning Ella (such as her birthplace and mother's maiden name), which were corrected on the marriage certificate itself. They lived in Mesquite for a few years, where their children Tina Bessie, Meda Mae, Ira Irvin, and Lloyd Monroe, were born. They then moved to Caddo County, Oklahoma, where their last two children, Lendon Augustus and Clyde Earl, were born. They later moved to Council Grove, Oklahoma, and eventually to Wapanucka. Albert died there on April 20, 1951, and Ella died in a nursing home in Oklahoma City on March 7, 1967. They're both buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, as are Lloyd, Lendon, and Clyde.
