Mary Elizabeth Marks, the third of ten children of Watts Marks, Jr. and Docia Delilah Bennett, was born October 13, 1869 in Dallas County, Texas. She married J. D. Brisendine on December 1, 1888 in Dallas County. They were the parents of 12 children. Mary died May 12, 1940 and was buried in the Bennett Cemetery section of Laurel Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. J. D. Brisendine, 70, of 1112 South Barry Avenue, were to be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Balch Springs community church, with the Rev. R. B. Cooper of Pleasant Grove officiating. Burial was to be in Bennett Cemetery. / Six grandsons of Mrs. Brisendine were to be pallbearers. / Mrs. Brisendine, a lifelong resident of Dallas County, died at her home Sunday. Her father was a Confederate veteran. / Survivors are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Howell and Mrs. Leona Howell, both of Dallas, Mrs. B. B. West of Mesquite; eight sons, Claude, Clarence, Floyd, Wilmer, Forest, Ollie and Jimmie Brisendine, all of Dallas, and Arch Brisendine of Plano; thirty-four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; three sisters Mrs. J. R. Paschall, Mrs. W. F. Murphy, both of Mesquite; Mrs Jim Henshaw of Los Angeles, Cal.; two brothers, A. M. Marks of Fort Cobb, Okla., and J. M. Marks of Houston.
