The fame of Professor Maeser as a teacher spread throughout the community, he taught school in a Church meeting house for several years until he was called by the First Presidency to undertake a mission to Switzerland and Germany. Upon his return to Utah, He also taught classes in the Deseret University. Eventually Brigham Young called him to Provo, to begin teaching at the recently constructed Brigham Young Academy. He is still regarded as one of the greatest educator's in United States history.
