The youngest son of James Beall, Sr., and Jane Baird, his father died when he was a toddler. He married on May 23, 1860 to Miss Martha Anderson, and in February of 1871 he purchased "Tannehill Farm" in Wheeling twp., Belmont Co. In the 1870 and 1880 census, his mother, Jane, lived with them and probably died there. In 1900, his great-niece, Ida Mary Moore, was working in the household as a servant. Josiah died at his home.
