Jean Wilder Hill, age 88, died Saturday, December 18, 2010, in McKinney, Texas.

Known to friends and family as Buzzie, she was born July 14, 1922, in Austin, Texas, and graduated from Austin High School. She graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor's in business administration in 1947. During WWII, she worked at the War Research Laboratory at the University of Texas. She also served as secretary at University Baptist Church in Austin.

After her marriage to Davis C. Hill in 1947, she enrolled at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where she earned a master's in religious education from the WMU Training School in 1950. She served as church secretary at Broadway Baptist in Louisville and worked as assistant to the editor of the Review & Expositor.

She moved to Nashville in 1960. For 50 years she was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as Sunday school secretary.

A gifted songwriter, she wrote lyrics and choruses to more than 80 songs—several of which were published by the Cumberland Valley Gospel Music Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Davis Carothers Hill. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hill Winters, son-in-law Mark H. Winters, and granddaughter Amy Caroline Winters, all of McKinney, Texas.

A burial service was held in Austin, Texas. A memorial service will follow in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, or the National Park Foundation.
