He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the invasion of Normandy, where he received two purple heart medals. He was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Tarpine Valley Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry G. and Francis Parvin; sisters, Irene Thomas, Verna Smith, Mabel Evans and Gladys Childress.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn (Jones) Parvin of the home; sons, Wayne Parvin and Tommy Parvin and wife, Linda, all of Rogersville; grandchildren, Cindy Hurt and Michael, Morristown, Brian Parvin and Barbie, Todd Parvin and Crystal, Allison Coffey and Scott and Jody Allen, all of Rogersville, Christy Forbis and Tony, Surgoinsville, Michael and Amanda Clemmons, Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Camry, Aaron and Tyler Parvin, Taylor Collier, Haley Davis and Aaron Coffey, Mikey and Joey Clemmons, Erica and Caroline Forbis; brothers, Glen, Harlan and David Parvin; sisters, Vergie Dykes, Mildred Claiborne and Viola Day and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home chapel with Revs. Jerry Wayne Lawson and Riley Jones officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard conducted military graveside services Monday, August 16, 2004 at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.
