John Self

John M. Self, 84, a retired cattle farmer, died Friday, April 15, 2005 at The University Nursing Center in Durant.

Services were held Sunday, April 17, at 3:00 p.m. at West Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Harvey and Rev. Jerry Tate officiating. Burial was in the West Cemetery. Southern Funeral Home of Durant was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Self was born January 28, 1921 in Carroll County to the late Marshall and Mattie Ellis Self. He was a member of West Baptist Church where he served 36 years as deacon. He also served eleven years on the West Board of Aldermen and was a member of the West Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Myrtle Autry Self; sons, Douglas Self and his wife Donna of Durant, Wayne Self and his wife Sandra of North Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Marjorie Angulo and husband Keith of Madison; a brother, Marshall Lee Self of Kosciusko; two sisters, Bertha Ellis of Gulfport, and Wilma Wilson of Kosciusko; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The grandsons served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the West Baptist Church, West Historical Society or Hospice in His Hands.
