Dr William Dewey Alsever, one of the best known physicians in Central New York died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday after a short illness of pneumonia. He was taken sick Thursday of last week and at first was treated at his home, 727 E Willow St. Sunday his condition became serious and he was removed to the Hospital of the Good Shepherd where for many years he was head of the medical staff. Dr Alsever was born on Pulaski May 24, 1875 to Nelson and Ella Salisbury Alsever. His boyhood and early education was spent in Pulaski. In the Fall of 1890 he entered Syracuse University and graduated in 1896 with the Bachelor of Science degree, College of Liberal Arts.
Later he took a four year course at the Syracuse College of Medicine and after that two years of service at the Rhode Island Hospital at Providence, R.I.Afterward he took a shorter course at the New York Lying In Hospital returning to Syracuse to practice in 1902. He was associated with the late Dr John L. JHeffron, later dean of the Medical College, remaining with him until the laters death a few months ago. He left his practice to go to France with the VanDuyn Medical Unit during the World War and served as the head of several hospitals while overseas. He enlisted as a captain and was promoted to Major. He was discharged from service early in 1919 returning to Syracuse a little in advance of the rest of the unit.
Dr Alsever married Clara Bradner Bellows on Feb 20, 1908. They had three children who, with his widow survive him. They are John Bellows Alsever, Jane Bradner Alsever and William Dewey Alsever, Jr. A brother John N Alsever dramatic editor of the Syracuse Post Standard also survived.
