THE PARIS NEWS, Sun., Mar. 22, 1998, p. 4B: '(Picture) Jack E. Francis, 80, of Paris died Friday, March 20, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m Monday at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ with minister Dean Kilmer assisted by Jay Spencer. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery under direction of Gene Rodens' Sons, Directors of Funerals. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today in Gene Rodens' Sons chapel. Mr. Francis was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Lamar County, the son of Thomas and Annie Mae Armstrong Francis. A native of Biardstown, he attended county and Paris schools, graduated from Paris High School and Paris Junior College and attended East Texas State University. He married Grace L. Grinder July 4, 1941. Mr. Francis, a supervisor with the Texas Department of Human Resources' Aid to Families with Dependent Children, retired after more than 32 years of service with the department. The veteran welfare worker began his career with the department in August 1947 as a field worker in Honey Grove. He transferred to the Paris office in May 1958 and was promoted to supervisor in October 1958. Mr. Francis was a man who spent his life serving God through helping his fellow man. Working through the church, through his job and on his own, he saw to it that many people throughout this area received the help they needed. Additionally, when the time came to serve and defend his country against aggression, he joined the U.S. Navy and served here and in the Pacific until the conclusion of World War II. He was a member of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Grace, of 56 years; two sons, Jack E. Francis Jr. and wife, Aline, of Louisville, KY and Brad Francis and wife, Elda, of Hopewell; a brother, L. W. Francis of Pittsburg, Texas; a sister, Constance Lemon of Mesquite; four grandchildren, David and Ben Francis of Louisville, KY, Jenny and Ashley Francis of Hopewell; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Keith Bollman, James Rodgers, James Lemon, Marlin Black, Howard Holmes and Eldon Holcomb.'
