Cleon W. Austin, 51, of 14990 Helmer Rd., a resident here since 1956, died unexpectedly shortly before noon yesterday while helping a friend with his farm work.
Mr. Austin went to the Gale Tassell farm, a mile west of Scotts yesterday morning and took over operation of a tractor and plow. About 11 a.m., presumably feeling ill, he dismounted from the tractor. His body was found lying in the field beside the machine. Dr. Leo Rasumssen of Vicksburg, a Kalamazoo County coroner, said the death was cause by a heart attack.
Mr. Austin had not been regularly employed since the Galesburg Steel Co. closed down. The family formerly lived in Kalamazoo and in 1952 moved to Bellveue.
Mr. Austin was born in South Haven. He was married in 1943 to Winifred Scott who survives. Also, surviving are five children all at home: Charlene, Janiel, Vernadene, Annette, and Rita, his father, Martin, of South Haven; a brother Arba of New Orleans and a sister, Miss Vella Austin, of South Haven.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Burk & Hoag Funeral Home in Galesburg. The Rev. Donald F. Price of the Battle Creek Pilgram Holiness Church will officiate.
