FUNERAL HOME CARD
---Ruby Marie Shumaker was born June 10, 1919 at Hazelton, Ks., to Edgar and Rita Estella (Jumper) Baker. She attended school there and was active in sports and loved to sing. She was in several of the school plays and was on the honor roll for her good grades. Ruby loved to play tennis and soft ball.
---Ruby met Robert Shumaker at Hazelton, Ks. He came to Kansas from Missouri to work. They were married in Medicine Lodge, Ks. September 21, 1935. After their marriage they moved to Missouri where their oldest daughter, Loretta was born. They later moved back to Hazelton, Ks. While there three more children were born, Lillian, Larry and Linda. They later moved to Attica.
---Ruby was an Avon representative for 26 years. She won several awards for the sales she made. This started her large Avon collection, which she really enjoyed. She had to give up her Avon selling due to her health. Ruby had various jobs in her life time, including taking in ironing, baby sitting, cleaning houses and business in Attica. She also worked for the Dari-Cone and even helped a neighbor deliver her baby. Ruby also was a nurse aide at the Anthony Hospital.
---Ruby had a beautiful Iris garden which she took pride in. She had the flowers all labeled and traded them with other iris growers.
---Ruby was bery active in genealogy for several years. She spent many hours at the Anthony Library looking up genealogy for the Shumaker and Baker families. She would exchange genealogy with other relatives as well. She loved doing genealogy until her health failed and she passed it on to others to carry on.
---Ruby attended the Faith Baptist Church in Attica as long as her health allowed. Robert and Ruby helped organize the Faith Baptist Church in Attica. There was a revival and the evangelist went to Robert & Ruby and said they needed to get a church started. So they got some people together and held prayer meetings in their homes. The meetings were later held upstairs of the Brant funeral home until they were able to have a building moved into Attica to become the Faith Baptist Church. In later years the Faith Baptist Church purchased the United Brethren Church on highway 160 in Attica, Ks.
---Due to failing health Robert and Ruby went to reside in the Attica Long Term Care July 17, 2006. Robert passed away on February 7, 2008.
