NAMPA — Funeral services for James William Buck, 71, of 239 Meffan St., Nampa, who died at his home Tuesday morning following an extended illness, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Alsip Funeral Chapel. Bishop Milton B. Minor, of the Nampa 6th Ward L.D.S. Church, will officiate, and interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Buck was born Jan. 28, 1895 in Weber County, Utah, and at the age of 5, moved with his parents to Idaho, where he lived for several years. He was reared and attended schools at Smithfield, Utah. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War I, (Aug. 22, 1917) at Ft. Douglas, Utah, and served most of his military time in France.
He was married to Maud Jensen at the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple on Dec. 10, 1919. They made their home near Smithfield, Utah until 1943, when they moved to Nampa. He farmed here in the Midway community until 1956, when ill health forced his retirement He was a member of the Nampa 6th Ward L.D.S. Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maud Buck of Nampa, one son, J. Wendel Buck of Meridian; six daughters, Mrs. Amanda Shaw of Layton, Utah, Mrs. Gayle Edison of Nampa, Mrs. Lucile Jensen of Auburn, Calif., Mrs. Carol Romph of Nampa, Mrs. LaEta Shurtliff of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Mrs. Babs Hood of Sacramento, Calif.; three brothers, Leroy Buck of Twin Falls, Ida., Clarence Buck of Othello, Wash., and Harmon Buck of Ogden, Utah; five sisters, Mrs. Hannah Roskelley of Nampa, Mrs. Sara Daines of Nampa, Mrs. Luch Baugh of Richfield, Ida., Mrs. Martha Jorgensen of Renton, Wash., and Mrs, Celia Nelson of Salt Lake City, Utah; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
