Earline Bays

Earline Bays was born October 16, 1916 in Winona, MS. She was the third of five children born to the marriage of Miss Willie Knight Bibbs and Mr. Maude Powell. One sister, Mrs. Minnie Austin,and her only brother, Dr. Lee Vernon Powell, preceded her in death.

She believed in education, and, as usual, taught by example. After receiving her high school education in the Winona Public School system, she subsequently received her Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in English, and the Master of Library Science from Rust College and Mississippi State University, respectively. She also did graduate work at the University of Kentucky.

After losing a potential husband to World War II, Earline moved to Eupora where she met and married Otho Douglas Bays in the fall of 1949. To this union three sons were born, and thus commenced the dual career of teaching and rearing her children. Her teaching career spanned four decades.

While she loved teaching and educating, her greatest love was for God and church. Earline's religious education was nurtured in a christian home.

Early in life she joined the Hayes Creek Missionary aptist Church in Winona, MS, and upon moving to Eupora, MS, transferred her membership to the Mt. Union M..Church.Her faith in God knew no bounds and her dedication to teaching others about God's love was tireless.She held numerous positions in her local church and taught christian education courses at the local and state level.

Earline Powell Bays passed away May 22, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, MS.

She is survived by three sons:Larry D. Bays of Starkville, MS, Dwayne E. Bays of Eupora, MS and Cedric E. Bays of Collierville, TN; two sisters; Betty Trotter and Lou Jeffries of Winona, MS; one daughter-in-law, Doris P. Bays of Collierville, TN; a brother-in-law, Ned Jeffries of Winona, MS; three grandchildren; Myron L.Bays of Olive Branch, MS, Shambry Clark of Starkville, MS and Chelsea Madison of Collierville, TN; two great-grandchildren and nineteen nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Eupora Churchill Cemetery at Eupora, MS. Funeral arrangements by Eddie Robinson Funeral Directors.
