Dau. of Edward F. Carlisle of Jackson Co., TN & unknown mother. Reared in Jackson TN by her father & stepmother, Elizabeth Crowell Presley Carlisle. Married Matthew M. Ballard 23 Jun 1853 in Fannin Co., TX. Indigent Conferate Widow in Cherokee Co., TX in 1864. Moved back to Fannin Co. in the summer of 1870. Received a Confederate Scrip Land Grant from the State of Texas in Fannin Co. in 1881, for husband Matt being killed in the Civil War.
